The world's first carbon dioxide synthesis polyester project started

On the 17th, Bayer Group launched the world's first carbon dioxide synthetic polyester material project. The project is located in the chemical park of its global headquarters Leverkusen, using special catalysts to synthesize carbon dioxide and polyols into polyester-polycarbonate, and the required carbon dioxide is supplied by the German energy company RWE through nearby coal-fired power plants.
The group's director of technology development, Prisko, said that the study entitled "The Fantasy Response" began two years ago. Although the current production is very small, it has achieved breakthroughs in technology and is far ahead of its competitors. This will not only help cope with rising crude oil and other fossil energy prices, but also enable the Group to better conduct carbon emissions trading.
Bayer plans to build a larger production facility for carbon dioxide-synthesized polyester materials. By 2015, it will produce tons of polyester materials, which will generate greater benefits from the perspective of environmental protection and cost accounting.
According to relevant experts’ forecasts, Germany’s market capacity for the use of carbon dioxide for synthetic polyester materials is approximately 20 million tons.
