Honeywell Launches New Board Mount Micro Pressure Sensor

Honeywell Launches New Board Mount Micro Pressure Sensor Honeywell (NYSE: HON) Sensing and Control released a new board-mounted micro-pressure sensor to further expand its TruStability® board-mounted pressure sensor product platform. This series of micro-pressure products has industry-leading long-term stability, total error band, accuracy, flexibility, high burst pressure characteristics and high working pressure range.

The TruStability® HSC (High Accuracy Silicon Ceramic) series and SSC (Standard Precision Silicon Ceramic) series offer high sensitivity and high overpressure and burst pressure characteristics - these three performance characteristics are difficult to share in the same product. This technology can protect the sensor without affecting the sensing ability of extremely small pressure changes, and it can also overcome the influence of some environmental factors (such as temperature, humidity, etc.) and maintain the durability.

TruStability® micropressure sensors can still be superior in their stability to any of today's industry-leading sensor products when used under long-term or extreme temperature conditions. This series of products can minimize the need for system calibration and optimize system performance. At the same time, it reduces the service requirements or replacement requirements during the sensor life cycle, and effectively supports the normal operation of the system.

AJ Smith, global product manager for Honeywell Sensing & Controls, stated: “For pressure sensors, it is very difficult to maintain high stability in applications requiring a low pressure range. Usually, pressure sensors are used in micro-pressure applications. Often damaged by high pressure conditions, the TruStability® micropressure sensor utilizes Honeywell's patented technology to maintain industry-leading stability even under overpressure conditions."

This new series of sensors can read pressures and achieve digital or analog outputs within a specified full-scale micro-pressure range (±2.5 mbar to ±40 mbar [±1 inH2Oto±30 inH2O]), supporting a wide range of specific applications in the industrial and medical industries:

Industrial HVAC (HVAC) applications, including VAV (Variable Air Volume) regulation systems, duct static pressure, HVAC filter plugging detection, HVAC transmitters and indoor air quality.

Medical applications include ventilators, anesthesia machines, spirometers, nebulizers, and hospital room air pressure control.

Honeywell offers the industry-leading Total Error Band (TEB), which is the most comprehensive, accurate, and meaningful measurement, and is available in the compensation temperature range of 0°C to 50°C or -20°C to 85°C To ensure the accuracy of the sensor. Therefore, the customer can use the sensor quickly and easily in the application, and it is no longer necessary to calculate the total error with each partial error. The total error band of the HSC series is ±1%FSS to ±3%, and the total error range of the SSC series is ±2%FSS to ±5%FSS (depending on the pressure range). The total error band not only enables customers to eliminate the need for separate testing and calibration of individual sensors, improve manufacturing time and process, ensure system accuracy and quality, optimize system uptime, and ensure excellent interchangeability (in terms of accuracy Minimal variation between devices.

Other features of TruStability® Micro Pressure Sensors:

Industry-leading accuracy can be as high as ±0.25%FSSBFSL (full-scale, best-fit straight line), reducing the software required to correct system errors, minimizing system design time, supporting system accuracy and quality assurance requirements, and optimizing system performance operation hours.

The high burst pressure characteristics, which can be as high as 415 inH2O (1034 mbar) or more, allow the sensor to maintain high sensitivity in a variety of environmental changes, measure very small pressure changes, and simplify the customer's design process.

The high working pressure range, which can be as high as 135 inH2O (336 mbar) or more, enables the ultra-low pressure sensor to work continuously and effectively within the calibration pressure range.

Modular, flexible design with multiple package types (also with industry-leading stability), pressure ports and options simplifies application integration for equipment manufacturers.

On-board signal processing allows the PCB board to eliminate the need for signal processing components, reduce costs, and simplify the customer's production process.

The flexibility of the installation direction enables the customer to place the sensor in the best position in the system, reducing the influence of positional deviation and improving the flexibility in the application.

Vibration insensitivity reduces sensitivity to specific application vibrations as pressure changes and reduces pressure reading errors.

The integrated amplification, compensation, and calibration allow the user's PCB to dispense with signal processing related components, reducing the size of the PCB, and saving component-related costs (eg, purchases, inventory, assembly, etc.).

Internal diagnostics improve system reliability.

Extremely low power consumption (below 10mW, typical) reduces power consumption, extends battery life, and increases energy efficiency.

A 14-bit digital output (at least 12-bit pressure resolution) compatible with I2C or SPI can also provide analog output by reducing conversion requirements and increasing performance by interacting directly with a microprocessor or microcontroller.

Miniature package 10mm x 10mm [0.39inx0.39in] Compared with the circuit board mounting type pressure sensor, its package size is very small, and it occupies a smaller size of the PCB board, and it can be conveniently placed on the component-concentrated PCB board or small-sized equipment.

This series of sensors expands the TruStability® mid- and low-pressure pressure sensor product line (60 mbar to 10 bar [1 psi to 150 psi]) announced in 2009 and the TruStability® uncompensated/non-amplified pressure sensor product line (60 mbar to 10 bar [1 psi to 150 psi]) announced in July 2011 .
