2011 U.S. Car Recall Survey: Germans Far Less Than Japanese

"Made in Germany" has also made great progress in the weak US market. According to a survey released by the FHDW at the University of Paderborn in Paderborn, Germany, the recall rate of German cars in the US car market is much lower than that of other competitors, especially the strongest rival Japanese cars.

It is reported that in 2011, Honda topped the list with a recall rate of 332%, which was more than three times the sales of new cars. Also performing poorly was Subaru (222%) and Toyota (213%), which ranked second and third in the previous paragraph. The recall rate of Japanese cars in 2011 was significantly higher than in 2010. Its myth of reliable quality was gradually break in. Ford, the US automaker, took fourth place with a recall rate of 155%.

It is reported that the recall rate of Daimler in the US market is 53%, the public is 66%, and BMW is as high as 91%. Porsche is 9%, and the lowest recalled laurel is selected. Most of the models with lower recall rate are German cars. On the low recall rate list, followed by Porsche, Jaguar, General Motors, and Nissan ranked second to fourth in the low recall rate, with Daimler occupying fifth place.

The survey data is mainly obtained by adding the ratio of the number of automakers' auto recalls (full vehicle models and sales over the years) to the sales volume of new vehicles (2011). In 2011, approximately 14.5 million vehicles were recalled in the US automotive market, while new vehicle sales in the United States were only 12.78 million. The number of vehicle recalls in 2010 was higher than that in 2011, reaching 18 million vehicles. Research shows that in the long run, the recall rate in the US market will remain high.

Research shows that more than one-third of recalls come from problems with the safety system of cars, such as airbags. Other reasons for recall are automotive drive and engine fuel supply (30%), brakes (15%), bodywork (approximately 5%) and operating system (approximately 5%).
