Research and Analysis on Charging System Technology of Electric Vehicles

The development of electric vehicles includes the research and development of electric vehicles and energy supply systems. The energy supply system refers to charging infrastructure, power supply, charging and battery systems and energy supply modes. As a new technology field, electric vehicle charging technology has attracted many countries in the world to research on charging technology, and plans to produce charging technology standards, which will take the lead in future business development.
1. Standard development of charging system
Because the current scale of electric vehicle charging stations is small and the number is small, most of the technologies related to charging stations for electric vehicles are still in the initial stage of practical application. The international standard for electric vehicle charging systems is mainly IEC 61851:2001 issued by the IEC. The standard includes three parts: general requirements, connection requirements for electric vehicles and AC/DC power supplies, electric vehicles and AC/DC charging stations.
According to the development of domestic electric vehicles, China established three standards in 2001. These three standards are equivalent to the three parts of IEC61851. In recent years, with the rapid development of electric vehicles and electric power technologies, these standards have been unable to meet the current development needs, and they lack the contents of communication protocols, monitoring systems, and other aspects. In order to regulate the application of internal electric vehicles, the State Grid Corporation of China has already issued six corporate standards related to electric vehicle charging stations.
At present, the lack of research on application integration technology and related standards and regulations for power supply, charging, and battery systems is still the main weakness in the promotion and application of electric vehicles, which brings great difficulties to the next step in the development of electric vehicles and the unified planning of charging facilities. . There is no mature product in the charging station monitoring system that can guarantee the normal operation of the large-scale charging station. There is no unified standard for the communication protocol and communication interface between the charging station monitoring system and the charger, and there is no information between the charging stations.
2 commonly used electric vehicle charging mode
According to the technology and use characteristics of the electric vehicle battery pack, there are certain differences in the charging mode of the electric vehicle. For the selection of the charging scheme, there are three modes of conventional charging, fast charging, and rapid battery change system.
2.1 Regular charging
1) Concept: After the battery is discharged, it should be charged immediately (in a special case, it should not exceed 24h). The charging current is very low and its size is about 15A. This type of charging is called regular charging (ordinary charging). Conventional battery charging methods use constant-current or constant-current charging with a small current. Generally, the charging time is 5-8 hours or even 10 to 20 hours.
2) Advantages and Disadvantages: Because the power and current ratings used are not critical, chargers and installation costs are relatively low; they can make full use of low power hours to charge and reduce charging costs; they can increase charging efficiency and prolong battery life. The main disadvantage of the conventional charging mode is that the charging time is too long, and it is difficult to meet when there is an emergency operation requirement.
2.2 Fast charging
Fast charge, also known as emergency charging, is to provide a short-term charging service for a short period of time within 20 minutes to 2 hours when a large current is parked in an electric vehicle. Generally, the charging current is 150 to 400A.
1) Concept: The conventional battery charging method generally takes a long time and brings many inconveniences to practical use. The emergence of fast rechargeable batteries provides technical support for the commercialization of pure electric vehicles.
2) Advantages and Disadvantages: Short charge time; long life of rechargeable battery (more than 2000 times of charge); no memory, can charge and discharge in large capacity, charge 70%-80% of electricity in a few minutes; Within a short time (about 10-15 minutes), the battery storage capacity can reach 80%-90%, which is similar to the refueling time. Therefore, a large-area parking lot may not be provided when the corresponding charging station is built. However, compared with the conventional charging mode, fast charging also has certain disadvantages: the charging efficiency of the charger is relatively low, the work and installation costs are high, and the charging current is large. Special consideration is given.
2.3 Mechanical Charging
1) Concept: a rapid battery replacement system. The purpose of charging is achieved by directly replacing the battery pack of the electric vehicle. Due to the large weight of the battery pack, the specialized requirements for battery replacement are relatively strong. Professionals need to be equipped with professional machines to quickly complete battery replacement, charging, and maintenance.
2) Advantages and Disadvantages: Electric vehicle users can rent fully charged batteries and replace exhausted ones. This will help improve the efficiency of vehicle use and improve the convenience and quickness of users; Charging, reducing the cost of charging, improving the economical efficiency of the vehicle; solving the problems of charging time, battery charge, battery life, driving mileage, price, etc.; can find the problem of the single battery in the battery pack in time and carry out maintenance The work will have a positive significance for the maintenance of the battery, and the reduction in the depth of discharge of the battery will also help improve the life of the battery.
3 charging station monitoring system
The electric vehicle charging station is an energy basic service facility that guarantees the normal use of electric vehicles. The monitoring system of the electric vehicle charging station serves as a centralized monitoring system for the equipment in the charging station. It is necessary to research and develop the monitoring system for the electric vehicle charging station. At present, the charging station monitoring system developed in China has basically the following major functions.
3.1 charge monitoring function
1) Monitoring of charging piles: monitoring the state of the AC output interface of the charging pile, such as current, voltage, switch status, protection status, etc.; collecting basic information of the electric vehicle connected to the charging pile; controlling the AC output interface of the charging pile Break.
2) Monitoring of the charger: The charger, as a monitored object, is sent to the monitoring system and mainly includes two types of data, charger status information, and battery status information.
3.2 Power Distribution Monitoring Function
Realize the monitoring of the distribution equipment of the electric vehicle charging station to facilitate unified management and data sharing. It can realize the monitoring and control of the total power, total current, total power, power factor, main transformer status, switch status, reactive power compensation and harmonic control equipment of the whole station.
3.3 Battery Maintenance Monitoring Function
In a large-scale integrated charging station, after the battery is used for a period of time, since the battery module in the battery pack may have a problem of consistency, the battery needs to be maintained and evaluated through a dedicated battery maintenance device to determine whether to reconfigure the battery. group.
3.4 Quickly replace the device monitoring function
In a charging station equipped with a battery quick-change device, the charging station monitoring system can collect information on the current rail position, device status, etc. of the quick-change device. A specific battery replacement command can be issued to the battery quick-change device through the charging station monitoring system. The device replaces the battery pack in the specified position on the battery holder at the specified track position.
