MANN+HUMMEL establishes production base in Thailand

On September 24, 2012, the German filtration expert MANN+HUMMEL announced the establishment of a wholly-owned subsidiary in Thailand to meet the demand of customers for local production and accelerate the development of the Group's automotive and water businesses in the region. MANN+HUMMEL Thailand Co., Ltd. is located in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand. Now it is building a production base of nearly 4,000 square meters, including a sales center in Rayong Province. In the southeast of Bangkok, Rayong is about two hours drive from Bangkok. It has a rapidly growing international automotive industry cluster and is free from floods.

Claude Mathieu, general manager of MANN+HUMMEL Thailand, said: “After the completion of the new Thai factory, it means that we have the first production base in the ASEAN free trade zone. This is for us to serve our Asian customers better and faster. It is a very important step."

Thailand and Japan signed a free trade agreement in 2007, and China and ASEAN countries have completed the first step of the tax exemption agreement. “The MANN+HUMMEL Thailand branch will benefit from this good economic environment. In fact, the major automobile manufacturers in Asia are producing cars in Thailand with the aim of increasing their production substantially in the next few years. And in other parts of the world We are also considered to be a reliable partner in Thailand and we are here!” Mathieu said. “My mission now is to build a new plant and integrate it into the global production network of MANN+HUMMEL. In order to promote the development of localization, and most importantly to meet the needs of our customers, the products of the new MANN+HUMMEL plant are mainly aimed at customers of global original equipment manufacturers who are strategic to the Group, and they have already established themselves in Thailand. Thai branch will produce air filtration systems and intake manifolds for cars and trucks."

According to the data from the automobile analysis agency IHS, Thailand’s car production is expected to increase by nearly 30% between 2012 and 2018, totaling more than 2.5 million vehicles. The completion of MANN+HUMMEL’s new production base in the ASEAN region marks another important step in the Group's road to achieving its development strategy. The goal of MANN+HUMMEL is to double the sales of the truck business while increasing the proportion of sales in Asia from 17% in 2011 to 25% in 2018. By then, the group's total sales are expected to reach at least 3.4 billion euros.
