New process for ammonia synthesis is highly sought after at home and abroad

In the past 20 years, foreign multinational corporations and domestic research institutes have been competing to develop new synthetic ammonia technologies, especially the development of catalysts for the conversion of major energy-consuming units in order to reduce energy consumption and reduce costs. Recently, the first-stage conversion catalyst project for low-water-carbon ratio natural gas undertaken by the Research Institute of PetroChina Petrochemical completed the preparation of industrial catalysts. The technical indicators of the catalyst have reached the leading level of domestic similar products, with good activity, coking resistance and high-load operation capability, which can greatly reduce the energy consumption of synthetic ammonia and methanol.

It is understood that the first-stage conversion catalyst for energy-efficient natural gas was jointly developed by the Daqing Chemical Research Center of the Petrochemical Institute and the Chengdu Institute of Organics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. On the basis of the completion of the pilot, pilot, and industrial single-tube tests, industrial production began in February 2012. A total of 5 tons of industrial-grade catalyst was produced, laying the foundation for the next industrial application. The catalyst will be widely used in ammonia synthesis, hydrogen production, and methanol.
