U.S. Authoritative Research: A Significant Decrease in the Car's Fuel Consumption

Recently, according to U.S. media reports, the latest research from the Automotive Research Center (CAR), a think-tank in the US automotive industry, shows that automakers must drastically reduce vehicle weight if they want to meet stringent new standards for fuel economy. However, composite materials are not used. It is difficult to do this.

Jay Baron, chief executive of the Automotive Research Center, said that "car companies want to significantly reduce body weight by using composite materials, especially carbon fiber materials." He also said that "even the body frame material must be replaced."

It is reported that a total of nine car manufacturers participated in the survey and provided detailed information on a large number of parts and components for 2015 models. The research objects are all mainstream models and are the best-selling models in the US automobile market. The best-selling Ford F-150 pickups are also on the list. The car was successfully reduced weight by 15% (700 pounds) through the extensive use of aluminum materials.

CAR has submitted its findings to the Traffic Management Bureau to discuss with it the controversial new benchmark for fuel economy. The standard was allegedly too stringent, and car companies are lobbying for a lower threshold.
