Australian scientists inspired by butterfly wings developed precision control light technology

Australian National University released a notice on the 17th, inspired by the butterfly wing, the school researchers invented a micro-structure can accurately control the light direction. This light control technology can be applied to solar cells, construction and stealth technology and other fields.

According to researchers from Australian National University, the study was inspired by the tropical butterfly goddess, a butterfly that has tiny, tapered nanostructures that allow wings to control the scattering of light and produce gorgeous blue. Inspired by this, the research team produced a similar tiny nanostructure, through which the direction of light can be precisely controlled.

"Effective light control can greatly increase the efficiency of solar cells," said Niraj Lahl of the Australian National University Institute for Engineering Research.

Lal said the precise control of light scattering, reflection and absorption of different colors of technology is being applied to a new generation of high efficiency solar panels, the purpose is to allow the solar cell perovskite layer to absorb the sun's blue, green and ultraviolet light, Let the silicon layer of solar cells absorb red, orange and yellow light, this kind of solar cell is called double-layer solar cell.

In addition, according to Lal, the technology can also be applied to the field of invisibility; in the field of architecture, the technology controls the amount of light passing through a window and the temperature of the light.

This research has been published in the Journal of Photonics of the American Chemical Society.
