Multinational corporations compete for chemical talents at the Chinese campus to “Bayer Class”, “Secco Class”, “BASF Class” and “Hens Maiban”

With the recent establishment of a cooperative relationship between Grace & Co. and China Chemical Engineering College, the demand of multinational companies for Chinese talents becomes more urgent. Cultivating and searching for the required chemical talents in China has become a new business focus for international chemical companies.
On these two days, 20 students from East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai formally received a grant from the U.S. Grace Corporation. These bursaries come from Grace's student fund established at East China University of Science and Technology. On the eve of National Day, Fan Sida, president and chief executive officer of the company, made a special trip to Shanghai to formally establish a series of long-term cooperative relationships with East China University of Science and Technology, including the provision of student funds. This well-known global manufacturer of specialty chemicals and materials, as well as U.S. companies known for producing catalysts, expressed their hope to attract Chinese talents to join Grace's business in China. On September 16 this year, Grace, which already has four factories in China, has set up its China regional headquarters in Shanghai to further expand its business in China.
It is understood that international chemical multinational corporations have paid attention to cultivating talents in China for a day. As it is forecasted that Shanghai will be built into a world-class and Asia-first chemical base in 2010, the multinational chemical companies in East China have begun to recruit on a large scale in recent years. The famous foreign coating companies such as Henkel, Knauf, and Nippon Paint all went to universities and colleges to recruit chemical product R&D, market expansion and brand promotion talents. At the beginning of 2004, Bayer (China) internship training base established by Bayer (China) Co., Ltd. was formally completed at Shanghai Petrochemical Industrial School. In the same year, the "Chemical Class" jointly invested by Germany BASF, Huayi Group, Shanghai Chlor-alkali Group and Shanghai Gaoqiao Petrochemical Company also started in Shanghai. On the eve of this year's National Day, another well-known multinational company, Germany's Degussa Group, opened its Degussa training base at the Shanghai Petrochemical Industrial School. The Group's director Dr. Oberham made it clear that China will become the world's largest market for chemical products. The management talent with Chinese characteristics is crucial to its success in China.
According to Gu Weiyi, principal of the Shanghai Petrochemical Industrial School, only the school has now opened "Bayer Classes", "Secco Classes", "BASF Classes" and "Huntsman Classes".
