Delphi Launches Innovative Electric Vehicle Sounder to Be Listed in 2012

Delphi has announced that it has developed a new car electronic warning sounder. The sounder will be used on hybrid and electric vehicles to alert pedestrians of the approach of hybrid or electric vehicles. It is expected that the sounder will be used in Europe in 2012.

Delphi's new electronic warning sounder uses a single design, weighs only one-third of the traditional multi-body design system, and the power consumption is reduced by 90%, making it the most environmentally friendly solution. Its single-box structure not only helps reduce vehicle design, testing, and manufacturing costs, its smaller size and weight can also simplify vehicle installation. The system's frequency range of 500Hz-10KHz can meet the unique melody selection of each vehicle manufacturer.

Delphi's innovative electronic warning sounder not only has the advantages of small size, light weight, low power consumption, low cost, but also features lead-free, waterproof, high temperature resistance, can withstand the high temperature and low temperature challenges in the car engine hood .

For higher quality sound requirements, Delphi also introduced a high-fidelity sound system. The system uses a conical speaker driven by a lightweight magnet and extends the lower limit of the frequency range to 150Hz. This magnet-based system weighs 66% less than conventional speaker systems.

Delphi's two systems are rugged and can be installed in harsh environments under the hood of a car, and integrate a 32-bit microprocessor with flash memory, a connector to the car's data bus, and an audio D-stage loudspeaker. .

The electric car has almost no sound during driving, which poses a safety hazard for pedestrians. With the application of hybrid vehicles and electric vehicles, various regulatory requirements have also been brought up on the agenda.

Beth Schwarting, director of Delphi's electronic control products business unit, pointed out: "Japan has incorporated regulatory warnings for hybrid and electric vehicle warning sounds, and it is expected that North American and European markets will introduce corresponding regulations soon. Delphi's goal is to Launch new low-cost, environmentally friendly technologies to help OEMs meet market challenges.”

Deidrich von Behr, general manager of Delphi’s European electronic control products business unit, pointed out: “Delphi's new electronic sound system enhances the safety of hybrid and electric vehicles by alerting pedestrians to approach their cars, and can also be integrated into In other on-board systems, it brings higher added value to the entire vehicle customer."
