Xinjiang Rural Highway Township Passes 99.8%

In the past ten years, 78,969 kilometers of rural highways have been newly built and renovated in Xinjiang, improving the conditions for the passage of 6,298 villages, and the beneficiary population has increased from the original more than one million to 13.79 million.

At present, the total length of rural highways in Xinjiang is 108,000 km. The percentage of townships and towns in the region is 99.8%, and the patency rate is 98.24%. The rate of access to built villages is 97.36%, and the patency rate is 74.03%. The grade of rural roads has increased substantially, and the mileage of rural grade highways has increased from 23,696 kilometers in 2003 to 79,401 kilometers. The “unimpeded and enriched people” project for rural roads has brought real changes to the herdsmen of all ethnic groups in the region. As of the end of last year, the per capita annual income of farmers in Xinjiang reached 7,200 yuan, the number of local farmers whose per capita annual income exceeded 10,000 yuan accounted for 40% of the total, and the total number of 10,000 yuan villages (villages whose per capita annual income of farmers exceeded 10,000 yuan) amounted to 1,728. 19.5% of the total villages.

This year, Xinjiang continues to regard rural roads as key livelihood projects. It plans to invest 2.5 billion to 3 billion yuan, continue to build 4,800 kilometers of rural highways, and improve the conditions of access to 25 townships and 450 villages to benefit 1 million people; Focusing on the construction of transportation infrastructure in contiguous and difficult-to-treat areas (three states in southern Xinjiang), we must adhere to the principle of “building, fostering, managing, and transporting” and continue to vigorously implement the “Changing and Enriching People” project to effectively promote the integration of urban and rural passenger transportation in rural areas. Improve the service level and guarantee capacity of rural roads and promote rural roads to better serve rural economic and social development.
